I have posted about the hawker centre at Caunterhall flats a few times. However, I go alone with hubby for dinner. So, our children haven’t really been here much. Yesterday, we were in a rush to go somewhere in that area and we need to grab a quick brunch.
So, we took all the kids to the Caunterhall flats hawker. When our car got there, a drug addict was trying to collect jaga kereta fee from hubby. However, the parking is free at certain hours and it is operated by a parking operator, not the jaga kereta.
After that, when we sat down for our meals, one of the hawker was playing some really loud music. This old Chinese ahpek was playing Ice ice baby, Macarena and all those 80s and 90s disco songs. So, my kids all whined, “OH MOM!!!!! What kind of place have you bring us to? All playing sons from your era! Aiyerrr…..noisy lah!”
I ordered a bowl of laksa. The hawker placed it in front of my son and I asked him to pass me the bowl. And he said, “Aiyerr…I am not touching the bowl! So dirty one.”
Dirty or not, the laksa is good. It has chunks of ikan kembong and the laksa soup has the nice twang to it. Just like how Penang laksa should taste like.
I had the fried fish beehoon. It is basically deep fried fish in batter with fried beehoon. There are not many stalls in Penang that sell fish beehoon like this. Usually, they sell fish beehoon soup.
So, Caunterhall flats hawker is not for the town boys and city girls. And if you cannot endure MC Hammer U Can’t touch this blasting in the background, then, you will whine like my sons did.
But it is a place for nice kuehs, cendols, mee goreng, laksa, lorbak and many other Penang foods.
