Long time ago, Kampung Malabar was famous for its fried rice. However, recent years a lot of new hawker centres have sprung up and the place is now rather sad looking and neglected. Now, you may wonder where is Kampung Malabar? Kampung Malabar is nothing like a kampung at all. It is just a tiny road, off Penang Road. Right across Kayu Nasi Kandar.
We went to eat the bak moey and ordered a plate of fried rice and fried koay teow. Both were nothing fantastic.
However, the economy rice stall there seems to do brisk business.
I had set my camera, ready in action to take photo of the bak moey stall for readers to see. However, in the bright late afternoon sun, the giant basins of kidney and liver floating in cloudy water, the overflowing minced, bloodied pork, the mushy white mess call pig’s brains, the pale looking intestine floating and etc look too gory. So, I didn’t take photo.
Lucky I saw the stall AFTER I had ate my bak moey.
Otherwise, I won’t be able to stomach this pig’s brain.
I like the bak moey because the soup is hearty. It is comforting to eat the boiling hot bowl of mee hoon with the innards of the pig. At night, this bak moey stall has very good business. But don’t view the stall during bright sunshine. It is just too icky, man.
