Mdm Soon’s CKT now dropped standard by so much that even Ah Seong’s (Wong Kin Soong) CKT in Seng Lee coffeeshop at Jalan Batai, KL is better than hers!. Ah Seong’s prawns are fresh and slightly chewy comparable with the best found in Penang and the aroma, freshness of ingredients and presentation is on par. Mdm Soon’s CKT has slightly stale prawns. She has lost so many Penangite customers and probably thinks tourists would not know any better. I was with a few Penang friends at her new coffeeshop a week ago and we could not finish her CKT as it was slightly burnt and swimming in oil/lard.

Lorong Selamat’s Mdm Soon’s (with the red hat) CKT is not only over priced, but nowadays more oily and of late she has been charring her CKT and her prawns are less fresh compared to her main competitors. Seems to cater to mostly non-Penangites as most of customers seem to be Singaporeans or KLites. Rule of thumb – if you order in Mandarin or Cantonese, price goes up by RM1. Thirty minute wait mandatory. She fries 2 plates at a time.

about her ATTITUDE problem …. don’t support AUNTY CKY. Opposite UNCLE HUMBLE

CKY is more better than AUNTY Chou Koay Tiow.

Let me share with you of my incident of Lrg Selamat CKT.

It was a rainy day I took my SIN friends to makan the AUNTY CKT. I ordered 6 plates and 18 takeaways..She asked me to que up?? HELLO?? Under the rain?? I was so pissed off that I went over to the Uncle CKT ( oopsite ) He was so humble that he even brought the takeaways right to my table!!

I so pissed of with the lady. Being locals, I know where to get good ones..and I am more nasty than her.. Each time you order she won;t answer you of she’ll say half hour waiting “pua tiam cheng” \\

So the next time I was there I ordered the UNCLE and HER CKT. No only my judge ment, Uncle one is much better. I did this very often to different groups of friends and they also said the same thing. Wether with lots of chilly or plain..So you try and you will know. The last time I did that was when Uncle retired and hand over to his son…SAME effect..Better than AUNTY and Cheaper by 50 cents!

Recently, she has move further down and have her shop. Never in my life I see her ” chio” call off to customer to eat her CKT. The UNCLE son took over her last location and he is still as humble as before..

For me still prefer the one near Air Itam roundabout ASIA Cafe. Available from 7am to 12noon must try before to Kek Lok Si Temple.
