Tavoy Road – Curry Mee

This is one of my favourite place to have dinner. Tavoy Road is along Burmah where the Penang Adventist Church is. Just the road before Him Heang Biscuit shops. At night the corner coffeeshop has some of the nicer chicken porridge, curry mee and bak chang. Across the road, there is the char koay kak.

The place is closed on Saturday and Sunday nights if I am not mistaken.

Nicest curry mee. A bowl with extra prawns cost RM5. But it is worth it because the prawns are usually very fresh and firm.

Do try the pek cham keh (steam white chicken) too. It is a bit costly but tasty.

Wua….RM5 perbowl? The most expensive bowl of curry mee I ever had also RM3.50 : P Hm must go there some day…Prawns looks huge! Even the chunks of coagulated pig’s blood looks huge…yum…but sometimes I wonder why certain places “pig’s blood” is less tangy. Those tangy ones actually have a rubbery feeling to it. Can aunty Lilian enlighten me?

Jian – Normal without less prawns is RM3 only. There more rubbery (jun-jun) ones are duck’s blood and the pig’s blood is in larger cubes.

The curry mee looks nice. Do you know Sin Kei? Buckingham Street, there is a market there, before the mosque at the end. Morning that time, there have a curry mee stall, you can ask for lots prawn ^^.

I never know extra prawns are RM5. Anyway, you’re right. They closed on Sat & Sun nite.

I agree this curry mee is the best I have had around

For the Pek Cham keh stall, I usually avoid it as the owner is very arrogant & when u order too little when u have a big group, he looks at you one kind…so I decide to boycott the chicken stall.the price also have went up

Hi I enjoyed your blog. Heard great so much of Penang from colleagues so been wanting to visit. But no courage. Now learn so much on Penang from you. I must visit Penang now.

I am not sure whether you have eaten Hainanese Curry Rice. The ones I eaten in Singapore is plain rice with Pork Chop, Chap Chye and Curry. Been looking in the website for the recipe. Do you have it?
    Thanks,Viv

Hi , talking about curry mee , have you tried the one in pulau tikus? I am not sure what that area is called but if you are coming from pulau tikus police station (after mobile petrol on your left), you will see Shell petrol station on your right , turn in to the road before/next to the shell station , go straight and you will find a hawkers corner on your right. There is a couple selling curry mee , wow , their curry mee is really good. They do not sell on weekends but it is wise to go early during the weekdays. There have been numerous times when by the time we reach there for lunch , all habis d!
