Padang Brown : Kerabu Bee Hoon

kerabu beehoon

Kerabu beehoon that is tasty is a rarity because many people scrimp on the dried shrimps. So far, I only know two places with nice kerabu beehoon. The two stalls are :

1) Morning market, Pulau Tikus – A plumpish woman has a cart outside the market.

2) Padang Brown or what Penang folks call Padang – The kueh store in the afternoon.

The above is from the Padang. It has all the flavours of kerabu beehoon, sour, hot and tasty. There are lots of dried shrimps and plenty of Chinese parsley.

There are lots of herbs in kerabu beehoon but I am not too sure what they are because the taste is very intense. I think there are cekur, shallots, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, kerisik, chili, lime juice and something like that.

The old man and his Indonesian helper sell very nice kueh and make sure you try the ee nyeah kueh too.
