Chulia Street night hawkers
Chulia Street is one of the main roads in Penang. It connects Penang Road, which is the town area to the jetty and heritage zone. So, traffic is usually very heavy. There are lots of backpacker motels along Chulia Street and hence, it is one of the more interesting street in Penang.
At night, a portion of the street become alive with night hawkers selling all sorts of tasty local foods. I don’t usually go there due to parking problem and also the discomforts of perching on a stool sandwiched by the drain and the busy street. However, we went to check out some furniture and feeling thirsty, we had a drink outside the Regent furniture.
From two glasses of orange juices, we went on to sample more and more funny fruits. The three hawker stalls around us were doing brisk business. It means they are probably serving delicious foods.
We decided to sample them. We had char hor fun, wan tan mee and char koay teow.
And the funny juices we had are :
Banana + papaya
Celery + bitter gourd
Grape
Passion fruit + mango
Orange
Water chestnuts
Watermelon
Starfruit
Nutmeg
The costs of the fruit juices is not very expensive as they are between RM1.50 to RM2.00 only.
The char koay teow, wantan mee and char hor fun were prepared by very elderly folks and hence, the original taste is there.
I haven’t posting for a long time because I just don’t feel like it. Today, I am finally posting after such a long time. It must be the bitter gourd and celery concoction I had just now.
